Non-legislative Recommendations

The Task Force on Strengthening Nonprofit Capacity discussed the following non-legislative recommendations during public meetings. These recommendations are meant to complement the legislative recommendations the task force submits with its report to the Texas legislature.

  1. Nonprofit organizations should identify or provide internal leadership and management training and develop leadership and management opportunities;
  2. Nonprofit organizations should take advantage of resources and training made available by the state;
  3. Nonprofit organizations should seek out and join networks to ensure they are contributing relevant information in a timely manner, including research, funding opportunities, and promising practices;
  4. Nonprofit organizations should take an active interest and approach to strengthening their organization’s ability to be a strong partner with the State;
  5. Funding organizations should provide flexible and reliable funding to nonprofit organizations to adequately support the nonprofit sector;
  6. Funding organizations and leaders in the Texas nonprofit community should prioritize and foster increased collaboration among nonprofit organizations in public policy development and advocacy; and
  7. The nonprofit sector should establish priorities for enhancing volunteer status through various strategies, including public recognition and special benefits.

Strengthening nonprofit capacity
will not be accomplished
solely through legislation.
The sector must
also work to strengthen itself
and its impact
on our state.
